The Top 10 Arsenal blog awards

By Tim Doel

Wednesday 20 January 2010

As part of our new series of articles detailing the best of the web, A Different League has been researching the Arsenal blogosphere, and come up with a list of the 10 best Arsenal blogs, based on site design, quality of content, and regularity of blog posting.

Arseblog

The Arsenal blog category is always a hard-fought one, with the north London club leading the way in quality football blogging. Therefore, those that made it to the top 10 can really be classed as the cream of the crop.

In a reasonably tight contest, Third-gen.com took 4th spot, thanks to some very current blogging, and a number of interesting features like their Hype Meter to judge how on track their team is. Thegunninghawk.com took bronze with their far reaching and very comprehensive site, “By the fans”. Silver went to Arsenalinsider.com, a nicely designed blog that covers a wide range of topics, and interesting features like the “Ask the oppo” section, designed to see the game from the opponents points of view. But first place, goes to the most established and popular Arsenal blog, Arseblog, at OleOle.com, which with it’s witty and informative pieces helps create a relationship with the reader, and puts forward some very current opinions. Well done to Arseblog.

If we have missed your favourite Arsenal blog, feel free to add it to the comment section below.

Arsenal-Arsenal; Avenal road & Arsegun are good people. All Arsenal people are good people

By Paul on 24 March 2010 at 22:33

Hi all Any chance I can interest you in a brand new football blog by an Arsenal fan? Can't promise fancy graphics and so on - just (I hope) good old-fashioned writing about the world of football - albeit seen through red and white glasses... http://www.redandwrite.wordpress.com

By Stringfellow Hawke on 15 March 2010 at 16:55

http://legendaire.wordpress.com/ Come and have a read at a very different type of Gooner Blog. Enjoy!!

By Duncan on 15 March 2010 at 12:39

Hi guys... def lots of Arse goodness here. We've also thrown our two pennies into the mix of late... http://www.comeonthearsenal.com If anyone has any suggestions for the Lexicon of Arse, please let us know: http://www.comeonthearsenal.com/about/lexicon-of-arse/ Regards Sonuvagun

By Barry aka Babi Cheese on 05 March 2010 at 22:52

GOONER TALK IS MY FAVOURITE. SO IS WRIGHTY7, ALTHOUGH IAN RIGHT WORE NUMBER 8 AND I FIND THIS MISS INFORMATION HORRIBLE TO SAY THE LEAST.

By Pete on 05 March 2010 at 22:50

I can't believe Young Guns, Gingers for Limpar or Gooner Talk haven't been mentioned here. They are the only blogs I read.

By Chris (The Gunning Hawk) on 20 January 2010 at 19:04

Thank you for this, Tim, we're flattered to be in the Top 3.

By spinnipinnis on 20 January 2010 at 18:14

She wore was good when they had keeenos rant but the top ten malarky is bllx

By Arsey on 20 January 2010 at 17:26

Seconded. They're both things to consider, but there is no way that someone reading a blog would base two thirds of their judgment on how pretty it looks and how often it's written. Besides, regularity can be a bad thing, some blogs completely overdo it and end up repeating themselves.

By Young Gun on 20 January 2010 at 16:57

I think you should have considered more factors than those three. Actual knowledge would be a good one (so bye bye Le Grove), originality maybe as well. Not sure why Arsenality and 7am Kickoff didn't make it.

By Cliffy on 20 January 2010 at 15:56

One of the best blogs if not the best is The Arsenal Column. It gives you tactical insight without much of the babbling

By PikeyRiders on 20 January 2010 at 15:26

Shewore.com is a great site if you want banter with other Arsenal fans articles are not up to much though so would give them a wide berth

By CEG on 20 January 2010 at 15:13

shewore.com i love the articles written by 'Riders', I learn something new every time.

By Julian H on 20 January 2010 at 15:11

ANR is a) odd b) indecipherable

By East Ave Arse on 20 January 2010 at 15:05

Funny that ANR isn't mentioned...Myles is now a Chelsea fan, and most of his predictions are about as wrong as one can be, but he is interesting to read.

By Jens on 20 January 2010 at 14:59

never read arseblog but i know a lot of people look at http://fansonline.net/arsenal/mb/view.php?id=107138&page=1 for arsenal news, as well as a great chat function to speak to like minded gooners

By Cahrlie on 20 January 2010 at 14:54

As below, love alan davis podcasts and always look out for sheworeayellowribbons articles, short sweet and always to the point

By Mers on 20 January 2010 at 14:47

I don't get all the fuss over arseblog. The blog seems to just be based on a blow by blow description of his daily routine and how much alcohol he consumed the night before. The 'arsecast' is ok, but Alan davies' 'It's up for grabs now' is much, much better and funnier.

By AL (Realsocialdad.blogspot.com) on 20 January 2010 at 14:06

Also cant believe avenell rd or wrighty7 dont get a mention. a cultured left foot is the only one in top ten that i've got highlighted on newsnow. About arseblog i have to agree with brad is pretty dull

By Limassol Gunner on 20 January 2010 at 13:29

http://youngguns.wordpress.com/ This blog is just essential for me. Can't believe it's not mentioned above.

By win26draw12 on 20 January 2010 at 13:26

CHEER FOR ARSEBLOG!!!! but you left out arsenal vision, my personal favourite, go check it out and hope it makes it next year :)

By Julian H on 20 January 2010 at 13:16

Interesting post. I agree with many comment-leavers that the youth blogs deserve more respect. Young Guns and Jeorgie Bird's are the two blogs I read the most - largely because I see the first team more often, so I'm not as bothered by people's first team match reports as I am by reserve / youth reports. ArsenalShorts has long been a favourite of mine. Up For Grabs Now has its moments. ArsenalInsider has a decent writer in the anonymous Vic Crescit (who is a genuine insider), but some of its other content is poor. 7am Kick Off's pretty good. Amusing to see "Le Grove" score so badly - clearly the Daily Star of the Arsenal 'sphere. Although, in fairness to the Star, it usually features more than a couple of tits.

By bRAD on 20 January 2010 at 13:02

Gunnerblog should be number 1, Arseblog fills his out with too much shit (normally about getting drunk) he also doesn't go to games ad often misses them. Gunnerblog is a season ticket holder and watches nearly all the games...and it shows! Gunnerblog FTW imo.

By what the heck on 20 January 2010 at 12:59

where is untold arsenal ? I think it is the best. blog.emiratesstadium.info

By The Arsenal Observer on 20 January 2010 at 12:50

http://arsenalobserver.blogspot.com/ Just started out. Match Preview coming shortly.

By WestStandTone on 20 January 2010 at 12:48

YAG.

By Sebcesc on 20 January 2010 at 12:41

Strange that Young Guns or Jeorge Birds aren't in the top 10, but spot on with Arseblog!

By AL (Realsocialdad.blogspot.com) on 20 January 2010 at 12:17

It not just about the comment and community. It can just be a bit of laugh look at "she wore a yellow ribbon" got to the funniest blog read no comments to be had. Some people just like to read it and agree or laugh.

By Goonerfish on 20 January 2010 at 12:12

Have to say Mean Lean @ Arsenalvision.co.uk is a great daily read and i agree too with the young guns.

By pires7 on 20 January 2010 at 12:03

what does everyone think of arsenal mania?

By Jim Jim on 20 January 2010 at 11:59

The Arsenal FC Blog is good, but far too erratic for my liking, i prefer a bit of routine.

By John on 20 January 2010 at 11:43

Andrew, wouldn't worry about it. Who judges a blog by design and regular? It's about community. The readers judge the blogs through their comments. If the content is good, they'll comment, if it's not, they wont.

By Jammathon (Third-Gen) on 20 January 2010 at 11:39

I second ArsenalShorts and Young Guns. But honoured to find myself in that list all the same.

By Andrew Weber (Arsenal FC Blog) on 20 January 2010 at 11:34

Feel a bit sad that I missed out on the top 10, to be honest. We've got a lovely community going at the Arsenal FC Blog and I like to think my articles are fairly well-written and updated regularly. Oh well.

By Burnt Oak Gooner on 20 January 2010 at 11:30

Arsenal Insider??!!!!! Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Only blogs worth reading are Arseblog, ArsenalShorts, GoodPlaya, A Cultured Left Foot, Gingers for Limpar, Arsenality and Young Guns. Le Grove are a bunch of sycophantic johnny come latelys. I hate them with a passion.

By Ian on 20 January 2010 at 11:23
